Decreasing Stress Levels During Exams

We all stress during finals and find it difficult to concentrate, or sometimes even sleep. For that reason, a post such as this one is essential to better guide students as to how they can optimize their brain-power and increase their concentration levels to better retain information.

Get enough sleep

This one is obvious, but to restate the importance of a good night’s sleep a reference to numerous studies is required. These studies have proven repeatedly that sleep is the time in which the body recovers and rebuilds many of the cells. This is an important process because a lot of these cells have been destroyed throughout the day and need to be replaced. This is, therefore, the reset button the body needs every day to start fresh the next day.

Drink plenty of water

While water is an essential for all organisms, it is fundamental for us humans. Most of our body is comprised of water, there’s that first fact. Secondly, the lack of water can create a mental fog, which prevents you from concentrating let alone studying or passing your exam.

Vitamins

It is no hidden fact that omegas are great for brain-health and heart health as well. Taking omega-3 supplements can increase your mental well-being and thus increasing your concentration levels.

Eating your greens

Greens should be a regular part of your diet. It’s difficult to consume clean foods, for a lot of students, during exam time, but it’s very important that this is done. Why? Because the sugar and artificial substances in fast-food or unnatural foods can inhibit your concentration. They have been also shown to increase laziness and sluggishness. So, if the next time you have too many M&M’s you now know why you’re procrastinating that study session.

Do something fun

You must strike a balance between studying and having fun. This is important to release some of the pressure during this final period of the semester. When there is no more hope for any more information to be absorbed and frustration increases, the best thing to do would be to call up a friend and go do something fun together. That way when you come back to study, you can approach the material feeling fresh and ready to study again.
